GOTS |

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world’s leading certification for organic textiles. It ensures that textiles are made from at least 70% certified organic natural fibers and meet strict environmental and social criteria throughout the entire supply chain — from raw material harvesting to environmentally and socially responsible manufacturing.

The Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) is the world’s leading certification for the processing of textiles made from organic fibers, such as cotton or wool. Developed through collaboration among international organizations, GOTS provides a comprehensive and transparent standard that ensures organic status, ecological and social responsibility, and chemical safety throughout the entire textile supply chain.

GOTS is recognized globally as a trusted certification for sustainable and ethical textile production and is widely used by manufacturers, brands, retailers, and consumers committed to environmentally friendly and socially responsible practices.

Core Objectives of GOTS

  • Promote the use of organically produced raw materials in textiles.
  • Ensure sustainable and ethical practices throughout the production and supply chain.
  • Provide credible assurance to consumers through independent certification.
  • Minimize the use of harmful chemicals and protect workers and the environment.

Key Requirements of GOTS Certification

  1. Environmental Criteria:
  • Strict restrictions on the use of toxic chemicals, dyes, and processing agents.
  • No use of GMOs (Genetically Modified Organisms).
  • Wastewater treatment is mandatory for all wet-processing units.

  1. Certification and Auditing:
  • All stages of production — from fiber harvesting, spinning, weaving, dyeing, and manufacturing — must be independently certified.
  • Annual on-site inspections and residue testing are conducted to ensure compliance.
  1. Labelling Requirements:
  • Only textiles meeting all criteria can carry the GOTS label.
  • Labels must clearly state whether the product is “made with organic” (70–94%) or “organic” (95% or more).
